The NAIHC offers a variety of training in subjects related to our mission. Since 1987, our Leadership Institute has offered training for tribes, tribal housing entity staff and others, seeking to develop courses that meet the needs of housing professionals. Each year hundreds of Indian housing professionals attend NAIHC training courses. Our course schedule is quite comprehensive and is made up of Leadership Institute courses and Tuition Free Training courses.
NAIHC offers both formal training classes and specialized training on a regional basis. Training is also provided at the annual convention. In addition, through the NAIHC Technical Assistance Program, a number of courses are offered free of charge. We are also able, under certain circumstances, to create custom training programs designed to meet your specifications and timelines. All training courses are taught by experienced instructors who have worked in the Indian housing field for many years.
NAIHC courses are designed to assist in the development of competency in specialized areas of Indian housing management, finance and budgets, resident services, development, procurement, occupancy, modernization, and program administration. NAIHC has redesigned all of its courses to meet the changing needs in Indian housing. You may register for our courses ONLINE! NAIHC offers Continuing Education Units (CEUs) through Salish Kootenai College for course attendees. Ask your trainer for a registration card and tribal release form. You only need to fill out the tribal release form once. All forms must be complete before NAIHC can process them.
Also HUD's Office of Community Planning and Development offers a slate of courses for community-development professionals.
Leadership Institute Registration:
You may register online for any of the Leadership Institute courses; just select any course in our schedule and follow the instructions presented. Your tentative confirmation will arrive by email but final confirmation is based on receiving payment. Credit card confirmations are immediate. Call us if there are any questions at all. To register by mail send payment and registration information to our address below.
Each course may have limited enrollment based on space availability at the training site. Therefore, it is important to register with payment as soon as possible. Walk-in registrations are welcomed on a space-available basis. However, NAIHC cannot guarantee participants a space in the class unless they register early.
Cancellations: In accordance with NAIHC Resolution 98-06, Registration Policy, refunds will be given based on the following policy:
- Up and until 3 weeks prior to an event, a cancelled registrant may receive a full refund (100%)
- From 3 weeks prior to an event up and until 72 hours prior to the commencement of the on-site registration for that event, a cancelled registrant may receive a refund of 75% of their original registration fee.
- From 72 hours prior to an event up and until the commencement of on-site registration for that event, a cancelled registrant may receive a partial refund of 50% of their original registration fee.
- No refunds will be provided under any circumstance once on-site registration for an event has commenced.
- All requests for refunds must be submitted in writing to NAIHC's Washington Office, either by mail or fax.
Hotel Reservations: NAIHC will have a number of rooms blocked off at the hotel/motel with a special rate and a deadline date for making room reservations. Your registration form will have all hotel information. Deadline dates may be as much as 30 days before the class start. When making reservations, please mention that you are attending the NAIHC training session to receive the special rate.

Limited Number of Participants
Class sizes for these special Free Training sessions are limited to 30 (some limited to 20 as specified). Therefore, it is important to register as early as possible.
On-Site Registrations Are Discouraged
However, NAIHC will accommodate them on a "space available" basis. NAIHC cannot guarantee participants a space in the class unless they register early. Those who have pre-registered will be given priority for seating and class materials.
